| Why Grassroots? Norfolk’s relationship with Zimbabwean Theatre for Development Company, Grassroots, began six years ago. Since then they have visited Norfolk annually in the autumn term for a period of six weeks, offering inspirational performances and workshops which focus upon issues such as cultural diversity, racial awareness and HIV and AIDS. Many of our schools book Grassroots year after year, establishing and enjoying a genuinely committed relationship. Schools appreciate that not only do Grassroots provide new and meaningful ways to enhance the school curriculum, but that the schools themselves are making a positive contribution to the group; money earned in the UK supports Grassroots’ direly needed educational programmes in Zimbabwe, and sometimes individuals lives themselves. The majority of this income is raised in Norfolk. Thus the school visits by Grassroots are framed within a very meaningful context - the relationship matters. |
